History
Western Ascent started in 2004 as a software and technology company. Remote data acquisition was on its service list early on, next to software, web, and product development. Today it brings all of that together for operations in hard places: the software, the connection, and the data.
John Daharsh, founder and CEO
I'm John Daharsh, and I run Western Ascent. I've written software for over a quarter century and spent more than 15 years leading software engineering at a utility-scale solar technology company. Along the way I led global IT and cybersecurity and recruited and trained the teams behind them. That work runs from power electronics in the field to SCADA and the cloud, and I still get out to the site when an install needs troubleshooting. I've overseen field crews configuring remote wireless comms worldwide, set up Starlink backhaul on multiple sites around the globe, led the teams that brought 2 GW+ of utility-scale PV power electronics onto telemetry and control systems, central and remote, kept more than 200 million data points a day flowing for over a decade, and worked inside NERC CIP environments and other air-gapped, high-trust settings. Western Ascent puts all of it in one outfit. When I'm not on a site, I'm bow hunting or fishing somewhere far off.
